Please join us Tuesday, April 21 at 7:00 PM for our monthly Texas Talks series, featuring TSHA's own Dr. Richard "Rick" McCaslin. In December, Governor Abbott named Dr. McCaslin Texas State Historian–a distinguished role responsible for increasing public knowledge about the rich and diverse history of the state, encouraging the teaching of Texas history in public schools, consulting with state leaders to promote Texas history, and making presentations on Texas history topics.
Dr. McCaslin will present the history of the role of State Historian and his plans for his term. He also wants to hear from our members about new audiences he can connect with, ideas for expanding the State Historian’s outreach and educational efforts, and more.
Dr. McCaslin of Denton is Director of Publications for the Texas State Historical Association after retiring as Professor of Texas History at the University of North Texas. He is a Fellow of the TSHA and an author or editor of twenty-one books, eight of which won awards.
