The Texas State Historical Association is sponsoring a gala event of Texas-size grandeur on March 1 at the Hall of Champions at Kyle Field on the Texas A&M University Campus. It most definitely should be attended by those who revere the history of the great state of Texas.

One of the hallmarks of this year’s meeting is that the Light the Lantern Gala and Charity Auction will be emceed by former Governor and U.S. Secretary of Energy Rick Perry and feature performances by country music star Clay Walker and the Texas A&M University Ross Volunteers.

The Gala is a marvelous fundraiser to support the TSHA to continue fostering appreciation, understanding, and teaching of Texas’ diverse history through publications, programs, and activities. Additionally, we have the opportunity to recognize TSHA’s Texas History Makers of 2024 honorees: Texas A&M University System Chancellor John Sharp for Education; former Texas A&M University Football Coach R.C. Slocum for Sports; Buc-ee’s President and Founder, Arch "Beaver" Aplin III for Business; University Lands for Philanthropy; and Actress, Producer, and Businesswoman Eva Longoria for the Arts.

The theme of “Light the Lantern” recalls TSHA’s first meeting in 1897, when devoted Texans established the association by lantern light. It also evokes TSHA’s continuing mission to enlighten future generations about Texas’ rich and diverse history. The memories from this historic event on the eve of Texas Independence Day will be remembered as among the finest to have ever occurred.

The program for the event, as well as a list of sponsorship levels, are in the invitation below. RSVP to angel.baldree@tshaonline.org by February 16, 2024. You can also register online at www. tshaonline.org/Lantern/
